Our goal as a company is to go beyond meeting our employee’s expectations for their career experience, which is why we’ve made it a priority to make investments in our global team. One of the ways is through a variety of free extended education programs, including the Alorica Language Institute (ALI) and Alorica Academy, both being tested and deployed in our Latin America and Caribbean locations.
To increase the pool of potential new employees, we created a program to fast-track employees to English proficiency with Alorica Language Institute (ALI). Recently launched in the Dominican Republic, the ALI program (available in two-week and four-week courses) covers everything from pronunciation and fluency training to confidence-building through role playing—all part of an effort to provide applicants with the skills needed to succeed at Alorica. The only requirements are that participants possess intermediate English skills, a high school diploma, an ID and availability to take part.
“We noticed that some of the candidates who passed through our doors needed to improve their conversational English before we could hire them,” said Adriana Loria, Learning Director of Alorica’s LATAM & Caribbean operations “The lack of English skills is what is limiting their entry into the company, so ALI is a good strategic move that will ensure we have access to more individuals to meet the growing demand for our services. We’re helping improve the lives of these individuals by improving their English at no cost to them. Attending an English institute can cost about a thousand dollars per person on the low end to three thousand dollars on the high end. These applicants just may need better language skills to make that next step in their careers.”
The Dominican Republic program was modeled after a course that Alorica already offers in Guatemala, a market with similar hiring conditions. Classes meet for about five hours per day, and both morning and afternoon class times are offered. All instructors are certified English teachers.
Alorica Academy is a six-week program available to company leaders that teaches skills related to the industry and Alorica’s own Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). From conscious leadership and neuro-management to developing action plans and tools to ensure corporate alignment, the Academy provides coaching and teaches communication and other business fundamentals. The program is taught via online and in-person sessions, and class graduations are set to occur in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Uruguay.
