How does a 19-year-old, who started as an Order Verification Agent in 2007, end up being Alorica’s Director of Security Operations for all of Latin America overseeing nine countries?
“Do your best,” says Victor Jarava, now 29, “Always go after the opportunity presented to you, and with a little luck, things will go your way.”
For four years, Victor was a top performing agent and when new opportunities opened up, he jumped at every chance. He worked his way up the ladder, first as Team Leader then Supervisor—fields he was totally unfamiliar with, since he went to school for Industrial Engineering. “I like challenges. They drive me and I’ve gotten to learn so much from all the different sectors I’ve worked in over the years.”
In 2013, Victor started assisting the Security Facilities Coordinator who oversaw Alorica’s LATAM region and when he left, Victor was asked if he would fill in temporarily. “Victor stepped up. He impressed us from day one,” said Matt Lyons, Vice President of Global Security. Matt was conducting interviews for the high-ranking position but after four weeks, he remembers telling his right-hand man, Dan McCarney, “Why would we want to hire anyone else? No one on the entire team works as hard as Victor.” Matt flew to Panama to surprise Victor with the news that the job was his. “I couldn’t believe it,” said Victor. “I was so surprised—just blown away.”
Asking Victor about his favorite part of the job he says, “It’s amazing that I get to visit all these different countries and cultures.” The LATAM region Victor covers includes Antigua, Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Dominican Republic, and Uruguay.
“My favorite part is definitely the travel.”
