Montgomery call center wants to hire 398 more people

Published on May 4, 2020

A California-based call center wants to hire hundreds here and triple its Montgomery workforce as the coronavirus pandemic creates a surge in demand.

Alorica employs about 200 people in Alabama’s capital city. Earlier this month the company said it wanted to hire about 50 more over the next few months. Now, Alorica says it wants to hire 398 more people in Montgomery right away.

“Knowing COVID-19 has impacted so many, Alorica is proud to aid those who have recently lost their jobs,” the company said in a release. “Based on position, Alorica team members can take advantage of flexible schedules and competitive benefits including paid training, medical and dental insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, 401(k) and an assortment of employee discounts.”

A company spokeswoman said earlier this month that salaries start at $10 an hour. ““To keep our employees and recruits safe, we are leaning on our virtual communication tools, including our online application form and online test prior to any in-person meeting,” Alorica’s Sunny Yu said.

Phones have been ringing around the clock at places that handle after-hours calls and customer service issues as much of public life shut down to slow the spread of the virus. The Montgomery Advertiser reported April 2 that Alorica is one of three call centers that currently employ over 1,200 people and are all still hiring.

Call centers are considered an essential business under federal guidelines, so they’re allowed to remain open. But Alorica said most of its 200 current Montgomery employees are working at home, and the company is enforcing a range of health and safety protocols for those who remain in the office.

The company has dedicated a section of its website to its work-at-home model and another to its COVID-19 response plan.
